Currently, there is a bill in the Kansas Senate - Bill 59 - which changes the language regarding sex crimes in Kansas. This bill modifies the language of selling sexual "relations" to selling sexual "acts."
We support this change because the term "relations" implies a relationship between the survivor and the perpetrator, which invites the idea of consent. Simply put, the status of any relationship does not matter when the goal of the trafficker is to sell sexual services. The term sexual "acts" addresses only the act itself. The act is the crime, and we believe the language of the law should reflect that. Right now, Bill 59 is sitting in the Kansas Senate without a vote. We need your help to bring attention to it. If you are a resident of Kansas, please consider contacting your Senator to ask them to keep this bill moving forward.
