Laura Deckert
House Manager, Salina
Laura Deckert has been a prayer warrior for Homestead since it began. She first became interested in learning about the New Community Christian Church strip club outreach ministry. From there she attended one of the Homestead’s trainings and received Diane Clark’s book “On Her Own.” Laura’s desire to work with women from the ministry grew. She wants to help them as they grow in their relationship with God and better their lives through love. The Lord used her experiences of a troubled marriage, substitute teaching, working with children in swim lessons, as well as being a dormitory mother at Ozark Christian College to shape her to be able to lead the Homestead women with compassion, boundaries, and love.
Laura and her husband, James, moved to Salina in 1995 to open a store to sell board games, comic books and posters. Laura did the bookkeeping for the store and stayed home with her 2 daughters and 2 sons. In 2018, James died from Glioblastoma, brain cancer. Shortly after his passing her daughter found out that their first grandson was on the way. Most of her family has a love for board games, because Friday nights were board game nights in their home. Her favorites are Settlers of Catan, Castles of Mad King Ludwig, Ticket to Ride, Quirkle, and Hand and Foot.
